Windtunnel-sculpted to integrate seamlessly into the overall design concept, the MC20 Cielo’s retractable roof is also extremely quick. The hard top PDLC glass roof can still give the impression of an open top and the endless sky above, even when closed.

It takes only a rival-beating 12 seconds for it to slide gracefully away into the rear housing and can be operated at speeds of up to 50km/h.

The MC20 Cielo’s engine provides an epic soundtrack of its own, yet in the cockpit another sound experience awaits. The Sonus faber Sound System adds more to the entire sensory experience. This system instantly recognizes the configuration of the MC20 Cielo and adjusts the sound dynamics according to the roof being off or on.

Clean, fluid lines dominate the overall design vision of the MC20 Cielo and with the top open or closed nothing from an aesthetic point of view has been compromised, only enhanced. Using Computational Fluid Dynamics and wind-tunnel technology, the results have helped sculpt the MC20 Cielo’s purposeful stance and pure sporting soul. Thanks to unique in its class PLDC glass, with the sky above, even when closed, you can switch from matte mode to clear mode in an instant with the Cielo button.

Drive Mode utilises unlatched turn logic in order to effortlessly select the respective driving modes: GT, Sport, Wet, Corsa and ultimately ESC Off. GT Mode continues the legacy of Maserati’s quest for performance and luxury in the Gran Turismo tradition. This is the default mode, a perfect combination of comfort and thrilling performance.

SPORT Mode is ideal for high traction conditions and even racing circuits, providing maximum performance with fast, direct shifts and stiffened suspension settings.

CORSA Mode is where the MC20 Cielo provides the most exhilarating experience. Engine boost is maximized while traction control is minimized and launch control is also activated in this mode.

WET Mode. When the road conditions don’t allow you to enjoy the full potential of the MC20 Cielo, in this mode everything is reigned in, while still allowing an engaging driving experience.

The Maserati Nettuno V6 3000-cc twin turbo engine is an engineering marvel based on pre-chamber architecture able to deliver outstanding power or improved efficiency. The core of the engine, the combustion system, is composed substantially of three main components.

THE FIRST ONE

The injection system that, by combining port injection and direct injection, generates a fuel feed pressure of 530 bars, fosters noise reduction at low revs, lowers the emission level, and improves specific fuel consumption.

THE SECOND ONE

The pre-chamber, namely a combustion chamber placed between the central spark plug and the conventional combustion chamber to which is connected through a series of specifically shaped holes.

The side spark plug, a standard spark plug that provides backup to guarantee a smooth engine combustion in operating condition when the use of the pre-chamber is not necessary.

The benefits of the pre-chamber system are a more efficient combustion and a lower tendency to knock, which both enable impressive improvement in terms of efficiency. This process may enhance the performance of the car or lead a more effective fuel economy, or even to a combination of the two.

Usually, when structural rigidity and weight are compromised, so is handling and outright performance. Through stringent attention to detail nothing on the MC20 Cielo has been compromised. With the roof either closed or open no concession is made to performance drop off, ensuring an immersive and thrilling driving experience. The quest for aerodynamic perfection has resulted in a fully integrated extension of the overall design. The result is supercar performance propelling the MC20 Cielo to 100km/h in just under 3 seconds and comfortably to over 320km/h.
